Dr. Tristan Troudt

Dr. Tristan Troudt graduated from Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2019 and has built a uniquely diverse career spanning equine research, mixed animal practice, equine reproduction, and small animal critical care. Born and raised in North Idaho, Dr. Troudt has been a part of the local horse industry her entire life. Early in her career, Dr. Troudt spent three years working with racing Thoroughbreds, focusing on research in Exercise Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage (EIPH), gaining vast experience in performing upper airway endoscopy and BALs on horses that are known as "bleeders". Her work resulted in published research papers and allowed her the opportunity to present at the International Conference on Equine Exercise Physiology in Australia. This experience established her strong interest in performance medicine, particularly EIPH and other conditions affecting equine athletes.

Following graduation, she practiced in a mixed animal setting for 1.5 years, where she provided comprehensive primary care for equine patients. During this time, she gained extensive hands-on experience in dentistry, vaccinations, lameness evaluations, castrations, and core general care, building a strong foundation in everyday equine practice.

She later transitioned into small animal critical care, spending six years working in specialty hospitals across the United States. There, she developed advanced expertise in emergency medicine, anesthesia, surgery, and complex case management—skills that continue to shape her thorough, detail-oriented clinical approach. Over the past two breeding seasons, Dr. Troudt dedicated her spare time to intensive mentorship in advanced reproductive techniques with Dr. Jed McKinlay, including oocyte aspiration for ICSI and embryo transfer. After successfully applying these techniques within her own program, she chose to return fully to equine medicine and now offers reproductive services at McKinlay & Peters Equine Hospital, having already performed successful ICSI aspirations and the transfer of ICSI embryos.

Her special interests include equine reproduction, aspiration for ICSI, embryo transfer, gastric ulcers, and EIPH in performance horses. Dr. Troudt personally manages over 20 of her own horses for riding, competitions, and reproduction, giving her a practical, hands-on understanding of the goals and challenges her clients face. Outside of work, Dr. Troudt can be found in the arena riding her barrel or ranch sorting horses with her husband, Dan, out on the trail, or teaching her dog, Carter, new tricks.
