Dr. McKinlay grew up in the rural farming community of Kimberly, Idaho, not far from Twin Falls. He participated in football, wrestling and rodeo in high school. He continued competing in rodeo, riding bareback broncs and bulls at the national intercollegiate level and later in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. He and his wife Debbie have four children: Bonnie (Derek) Ryan, Molly (Derek) Morris, Tanner and Afton, two grandsons, Zane & Sage, and one granddaughter, August. Dr. McKinlay received his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from the University of Wyoming in 1986 and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Washington State University in 1990. He practiced in Alberta Canada for the first three years of his veterinary career and then moved to Spokane in 1993 where he started McKinlay & Peters Equine Hospital. He enjoys all aspects of equine medicine but is especially focused on reproductive work. He frequently spends many hours learning from some of the nation’s top experts in reproduction to enhance his knowledge and expertise. He is a rodeo cowboy at heart that loves his family, starting colts, snowboarding, skiing, and fly fishing.
